The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette might be just around the corner, but that isn’t stopping Wisconsin-based Bennett Coachworks from working its magic on the current-generation C6 Corvette. The result is an 860-hp custom dubbed the Bennett ZX-1, which looks like the offspring of the C6 ‘Vette and an F-22 Raptor.

As you’d expect, the Bennett ZX-1 starts with a donor Corvette. Bennett fits a custom body to the car with styling that’s a mish-mash of Corvette, Cadillac Art and Science, and Lamborghini Reventon. The ZX-1 features C6 headlights, new bumpers and doors, a redesigned rear deck that ditches the Corvette’s signature rear window, as well as a rear end inspired by the C5 Corvette. Bennett will build ZX-1 bodies from fiberglass, Kevlar-reinforced fiberglass, or carbon fiber.

The ZX-1 is powered by whatever engine is under the hood of the donor Corvette. This particular ZX-1 is powered by a 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 that made 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque when stock. This LS2 is far from stock though; it’s been modified with new heads, cams, valves, headers, exhaust, and a Procharger supercharger. The end result is an engine that spits out 860 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque. Other modifications include a Brembo Gran Turismo braking kit, which includes six-piston 14-inch front brakes, and four-piston 13-inch rear brakes. The interior of this particular ZX-1 is mostly stock, but buyers can completely update the interior if they desire, with special leather, Alcantara headliner and pillars, as well as upgraded seats (from Sparco, Corbeau, or Recaro). With a total production run of just 200, the Bennett ZX-1 will likely remain a rare bird. Bennett ZX-1 prices vary from $60,000 for a base model, to $100,000 with every option ticked – plus the cost of the donor Corvette, of course. The 860-hp grey Bennett ZX-1 (number four in the run) will be displayed a Brembo’s engineering facility through February, when it moves to Detroit’s Autorama show. What do you think of the Bennett ZX-1′s styling? Would you buy one? Sound off below.
